Abbot Pass

A waterfall on the way to Oesa Lake

The waterfall runs down from the left of the picture to a pond below.

Another pond on the way to Oesa Lake.  The water was pretty tasty.

A view of Mount Victoria from the path to Abbot Pass.

Top of Abbot Pass... almost at 3000m.

Mount Victoria is in the background...  Alberta is on the right side of the picture, and BC is on the left.

Part of Victoria Glacier

They even had windows in the outhouse (on the cliff side)... very scenic.

Mount Lefroy: on the way up to the hut we ran into three people who had just come down from the hut after climbing Mt. Lefroy.  They said it was an epic day.  After we got to the hut, we were talking to a group of mountaineers who were also there the day before...  apparently one guy in that group fell 100m down the snow at the top before he stopped himself.  And they didn't get back to the hut until twilight (people usually start their climb at 5:30-6am).

Inside the hut...  the sleeping area is on the second floor.

The view from the kitchen window is almost as good as the view from the outhouse.  Looking towards Lake Louise...

Climbing down the slope was a lot easier than climbing up (although a little awkward in places).  On the hike up, the snow was melting in the afternoon heat  and rocks were falling off the cliffs.  Coincidentally someone died a few years ago after being hit by a rock.  But don't worry.  We had helmets.
